Beech
⦁ NZ has 5 species of beech: black, red, silver, mountain and hard beech
⦁ Found throughout NZ mainly on lowland areas and along inland river valley floors
⦁ Beech generally seeds every 4 years
⦁ Female flowers in spring and the wind causes the pollination
⦁ The fertilised flowers produce seeds in the form of small winged nuts that fall in autumn
⦁ Can grow up to 30m
⦁ Can live for 300 years
Flowers and Foliage:
⦁ The flowers are rosy pink and appear on the branches in spring
⦁ They remain on display for 3 weeks
⦁ Attracts birds, butterflies and bees
