• Wasps are not bees
• The German paper wasp is the most common in NZ
• Wasps tend to fly faster than bees and in an erratic fashion

• They are aggressive and will attack you if disturbed
• They do sting but do not leave a sack behind like a bee
• They can strike many times
• Like bees’ wasps have a queen which is a fertile female
• The worker wasps are unfertile females
• The drones are male and have long antennae that curve backwards
• The lifespan of a wasp is 2-3 weeks while the average lifespan of the queen is a year
