Flowers and Foliage
- Glossy star shaped green leaves in spring
- During autumn and winter the leaves change to shades of red, orange, crimson and purple
- Each leaf can have up to 7 ‘fingers’
- The leaves are fragrant when bruised
- Female flowers form ‘gumballs’ which are hard, round and bristly
- These seed pods remain on the tree through the winter when they drop and the wind and birds spread them around
- Generally disease free
- The wood is used for flooring and furniture
- The gum can be turned into chewing gum, also used in perfume and medicines
