Trees / Liquid Amber

Liquid Amber

  • A stunning deciduous tree
  • Best colour is in autumn when it changes from dark brown to red, orange and gold
  • It grows to about 20m

Flowers and Foliage

  • Glossy star shaped green leaves in spring
  • During autumn and winter the leaves change to shades of red, orange, crimson and purple
  • Each leaf can have up to 7 ‘fingers’
  • The leaves are fragrant when bruised
  • Female flowers form ‘gumballs’ which are hard, round and bristly
  • These seed pods remain on the tree through the winter when they drop and the wind and birds spread them around
  • Generally disease free
  • The wood is used for flooring and furniture
  • The gum can be turned into chewing gum, also used in perfume and medicines
