- Frogs, basically, have not changed since they were created
- The 4 NZ native species are shown in the pictures to your left: Archie, Hamilton, Hochstetter and Maude Island
- They are nocturnal which means that they hunt at night
- All frogs are well camouflaged and very hard to see
- Usually found in moist shady areas by the edges of streams and lakes throughout NZ
- The distinctives of NZ native frogs are:
- No external eardrum
- Round eyes
- Irregular croaking 2 stages to their life cycle
- Frogs are generally on the decline worldwide
- Man’s imposing upon land, its use of chemicals and poisons are wiping out frog habitats
- Cats and rats enjoy a feed of frog
